Plant Inspection Checklist

Manufacturing plants often contains lots of hazards that can lead you toward potential injuries, strains and health effects and even death. It is the responsibility of owner to arrange regular inspection for plant to avoid any misshape and for the safety of workers. Your plant inspection can be easy with the help of plant inspection checklist and for you help I am going to share a sample plant inspection checklist with you.


Manufacturing plant can cause lots of hazards not only for the operator but for those persons also who are passing by the plant or standing nearby. It is obvious that there are different hidden hazards such as pressurized hoses, pipes and electricity.  All these hazards need to be identified. You have to examine your plant by answering different questions and talk about different maintenance issues of plant with supervisors and workers. If the “yes” column is ticked, then it is essential to record Hazard Control Log for further evaluation.

Entanglement—getting wedged in the plant:

  • Can clothes, hair, jewellery etc. get caught in any moving parts?
Crushing (can anyone be crushed by):

  • The moving parts of machine?
  • Being trapped between any equipment and the machine?
  • Any moving mechanism and a fixed configuration?
  • Anything or any part declining off the machine?
  • Abandoned movement of the machine?
  • Any other mechanism?
Cutting (can anyone be cut, stabbed, or punctured by):

  • Any exposed parts of a blade or pointed edge?
  • Being trapped between poignant parts?
  • Being trapped between the job and the machine?
  • Material being expelled from the machine?
  • Rapidly moving machine parts?
  • Any other instrument?
Impact (can anyone be struck by):

  • Moving mechanism parts?
  • Unexpected or abandoned machine movements?
  • The machine because it is mobile?
  • Parts of the equipment decomposed?
  • Any other object?
Electrical (can anyone be wronged through electrocution, electrical burns or electrical fire by):

  • The machine is used close to electrical conductors?
  • Damage to electrical leads and plugs?
  • The apparatus being operated in a damp or filthy environment?
  • Lockout/segregation procedures not being used appropriately?
  • No RCD being used?
  • Any other means?
Slipping, tripping or falling (can anyone glide, excursion or descend near the plant because):

  • Floors around the machine are rough or greasy?
  • Power tools, air hoses, oil lines etc. are deceitful on the floor?
  • Waste, off-cuts or other apparatus are left lying on the floor?
  • Raw materials or product storage are not appropriate?
  • There is not enough access to move around the plant freely?
  • Any other reasons?
Falls from heights (can anyone fall from a height because):

  • Guard rails are misplaced and fitted improperly?
  • There is a lack of stairs or ladders?
  • There are unforeseen holes or openings?
  • There is a lack of fall fortification devices accessible?
  • Employees are qualified inappropriately?
  • Any other reasons?
Ergonomics (can anyone develop muscular or skeletal injuries because):

  • Seat of design operator is poorly designed?
  • There is extreme recurring movement of the upper body, arms and joints?
  • Body stance is in an uncomfortable or permanent position?
  • Plant control labels are not clear or suitable?
  • Regularly controls and operations are in easy access?
  • Working stature is not accurate for the labor object or task?
  • Floors are rough or greasy?
  • There is tremor from the mechanism or process?
  • Ventilation is insufficient?
  • Lighting is poor or not explicit for the task?
  • Heating/cooling in the machine area is insufficient?
  • Any other reasons?
Access/egress (can anyone be injured in any way because):

  • There is inadequate room to move around the machine when it is in operation?
  • There is deficient room to move around the mechanism when commissioning, continuation, repairs or decommissioning occur?
  • Any other reasons?
Temperature (can anyone be affected by the temperature because):

  • The machine is hot or cold to touch?
  • The worker is requisite to pierce hot or cold areas of the machine?
  • The worker is required to function or repair a hot or cold machine?
  • Any other reasons?
Noise (can anyone be injured because):

  • The noise from the machine is excessive?
  • The noise from the machine distracts workers from absorbed on the task?
  • Any other reasons?
Hazardous substances (can health or safety of workers be

affected because):

  • The machine requires chemicals to be used in the operating, preservation and revamp processes?
  • Fumes, vapors or dusts are given off during the operating, continuation and mend processes?
  • Any other reasons?
Pressure (can anyone be injured because):

  • Pressurized pipes and hoses could burst?
  • Pressure vessels are situated near the operation?
  • Pressure relief valves are not maintained?
  • Pressure relief valves are positioned near the machinist or other workers?
  • Compressed air is used to blow dust off the mechanism or the task?
  • Compressed air is used to blow dust off workers?
  • Any other reasons?
